Testimonials From Students
Burr
Elementary School
Burr
is like a second home to me. It offers a lot of opportunities, such
as Japanese classes and after-school activities. With Japanese, I
can go further. It gives me options for my future, like maybe going
to Japan one day. I’ve been very happy at Burr School!

I
thought the “Discovering Chicago” City Central Collaborative

Rogue
de DuPrey Elementary School
It
is really fun being a student at DuPrey because the teachers are very
nice. I wasn’t very good at math/science but that was before they
had this activity called the Family Math and Science Night. It’s
really fun to have activities and lots of creative ways to make
things dealing with math and science. If you come to DuPrey School,
please come to here to be respectful, responsible, and ready to
learn.

Lafayette
Elementary School
The
music program is really fun. I like it because I get to learn new
music. It’s also cool because you get to make people happy by
playing music. I also like it because you get to perform and you get
to compete against other schools. I am glad that I joined the music
program.
- O. Huertas, 7th grade
I
think the music program opens up a lot of opportunities for me. It
helps me get a head start in life to become better. Using this
program can get me into a lot of things that will become useful in
the future. I can get into top high schools and colleges. I think
that my involvement in the music program is a privilege.

The
Spanish program has been good to me because I’ve learned more
Spanish and now I’m able to communicate better with my mom, and
sometimes I can correct her. I think the program gives me the
advantage to become bilingual, so that I’ll have better
opportunities in my future. Also, it has helped me to learn more
about my Hispanic culture.

When
performing Carl Sandburg’s “We are the Mob,” I had to feel the
poem, taste it, own it, suffer with it, experience what leaders felt
in front of thousands just to motivate people.
- G. Velazquez,
former student
Before
reading poetry in front of the students from other schools, I was
nervous and excited. But when I saw people’s faces, I could tell
they liked what I said and the way I was acting it out. They were
laughing and enjoying my performance.

Talcott
Fine Arts and Museum Academy
Talcott
Fine Arts and Museum Academy is an excellent school in which anybody
is welcome to come and visit. We are a school with great qualities
and great reputation. All the students here have the potential
needed to be successful. Something extraordinary about Talcott is the
teachers. Every teacher here has the patience and dedication to all
of the students.
Throughout
the years, there have been major changes done to this school. Our
principals, Mr. Benes and Ms. Mercado, have been a great influence in
the changes this school has had. Three years ago, we were simply
Talcott Elementary, but we are now Talcott Fine Arts and Museum
Academy!!! We are now joined together with the Field Museum, the Art
Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Mexican
Fine Arts Museum. Talcott Academy offers reading programs which will
help students improve their reading skills. Everybody that walks into
Talcott feels the family-like environment and immediately feels
comfortable and welcomed!
- M. Malvaes, 8th
grade
This
is my first year here at Talcott Fine Arts Academy and Museum, and so
far I really like it. The teachers are strict, but as along as you
act good, you’ll have lots of fun. The kids here are very
accepting, and so I made friends in no time. In most classes, we do
lots of hands-on activities, instead of just reading out of a book.
There are lots of after-school activities to participate in, like
soccer, hip-hop dance, reading, computers, etc. Talcott is always
encouraging high school, and making sure you are preparing for the
future you want. This school is great, and keeps on improving every
year.
